Yes, this was an unfortunate situation that I pray was resolved. I unfortunately have not heard of an update nor did I ever get a reply to my email. I sent an email follow-up. I really do pray Lamya is in a better situation today.

Re: “Justice for Lamya Cammon” My Open Letter to Superintendent William G. I know it's been a couple of years since this madnesS has occured, but believe it or not I have just had this brought to my attention from another blog! Is there any update on this story you could provide me with? And is there still anything that can be proactively done about, right now? If you happen to come across this message, please let me know. Thank you for writing so pignantly about this, and giving this the much needed attention that this deserves!

Re: 12 Years Natural = 5 Takeaways + 1 Photoshoot

Hi K!

Thanks so much for your comment! And I'm glad you got something out of the article. It feels good knowing that someone out there can relate to my hair experiences :-) As far as my hair length, that's an interesting question... if you take a look at "My Journey<http: category="" natural-hair-care="" natural-hair-journey="" www.coilyhair.com="">," you'll see that it has truly been a journey, lol. I have tried everything under the sun on my hair to experiment and test the limits of my hair. I also had my scissors-happy phase. As of recent, I have been growing out my hair from a bad press I experienced in mid 2008, and a year after that coloring my hair using an ammonia-based dye applied by a professional hairstylist :-/ I began my Healthy Scalp & Hair Challenge<http: 2010-healthy-scalp-%e2%99%a5-hair-challenge="" www.coilyhair.com=""> in
2010 to focus on growing out my hair by keeping my scalp healthy, which my weave and wig wearing years did not afford me many opportunities to do so. It was truly a new experience for me to wear my hair out with no extensions, wigs, or weaves while trying to grow my hair. Last year, I decided to take a step back from length watching to focus on the health of my hair. So that's where I'm at now. It's not about trying to grow my hair long and doing everything under the sun to make that happen. It's caring for the hair on my head and being grateful for the length that I have, and maintaining it. So that's a snippet of my journey. Living with
natural hair just means that--living with natural hair. Maybe next year
I'll have a desire to focus on length but for now I'm comfortable where my
hair is as I continue to learn more about it daily ;-)

I found your article really interesting and can relate to so much you've said. The brush thing just confirmed my suspicions that I really wasn't helping my hair with such raved-about implements.

Couldn't help wondering, if your shorter style is due to past damage and therefore explains the length after 12 years of learning. Is this the case or partly or just a choice of a shorter crop? (I'd appreciate your honesty)

Thanks again

If you want to rock this style
but have issues with your ends unraveling, I would highly recommend twisting
or braiding your hair using a styling foam. I squirted a bit of styling
foam onto my hands and rubbed it through each section that I twisted. This
not only wet the hair, making it easy to manipulate, but it also gave it the
hold the style needed. The hair ends up "setting" in the twists, therefore
allowing the strands to keep their twisted shape. If you're still having
problems with the hair unraveling, I'd suggest clipping the ends of the
twists in bunches using some kind of clamp, clasp, or even band to hold them
together unti they dry. Once its dried, you shouldn't have that problem.
Hope this helps!

I am 6 months into my transition, so this would work wonders for me :-)
My only question is: you said that her hair is half natural & half relaxed, so how did you keep the ends (relaxed portion) of the two strand twists closed?? My straight, relaxed ends will unravel whenever I put in braids or into two strand twists, even when I do set them on rods or rollers. I always have to put one of those little black rubber bands on the ends.

Thanks!

Re: Against All Odds: ‘Braids By SaBrina’ Celebrates 15 Years

You're so welcome SaBrina!
